Moving the Report of the Equity Officer Forward:
Executive Decisions
The Executive passed the following recommendations arising out of their discussion and review of the Equity Officer’s Report:
- That a Task Force consisting of representatives of the 2010 Annual Meeting delegates, 2010 - 2011 Representative Council and Executive be established to review the definition and aims of equity within ETFO with a report to the May 2011 Executive meeting.
- That equity be a central tenet in all Federation communications.
- That ETFO pursue partnerships with agencies and organizations both within and outside of the education sector to advance equity and social justice programs.
- That a Task Force of the Representative Council consisting of 5 members of the Representative Council, 3 members of the Executive, 1 released officer and 1 staff officer appointed by the general secretary be established to undertake a review of the structure, mandate and method of operation of standing committees with a report to the February 2011 Representative Council.
- That the Task Force of the Representative Council consisting of 5 members of the
Representative Council, 3 members of the Executive, 1 released officer and 1 staff officer appointed by the general secretary, be created to examine strategies by which local presidents and members can be engaged in issues of equity with a report to the February 2011 Representative Council.
- That the ETFO Employment Equity Plan be referred to the Administrative Committee for study and report to the June 2010 Executive meeting.
- That the issue of self-identification of members as outlined in the Equity Officer’s Report be referred to the general secretary for study and report to the August 2010 Executive meeting.
The following motions were referred to the General Secretary for action:
- That ETFO undertake research that will show the impact of poverty on children by gender and by designated group.
- That ETFO undertake research to identify the barriers that currently deter women from seeking leadership positions, particularly those of President and Chief Negotiator in local unions and strategies to overcome the barriers.
- That ETFO ensure that additional focus is given to its work on persons with disabilities and to Aboriginal education.
