Provincial Executive

Sam Hammond, President
  
Sam Hammond is from the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, and has 20 years of elementary teaching experience as a physical and health education specialist. He served as an ETFO steward, and was the chief negotiator and grievance officer for the Hamilton-Wentworth Teacher Local. A member of the provincial Executive since 2003, Sam served three years as vice-president (2004-2007), and two years as first vice-president (2007-2009). Karen Campbell 
Karen Campbell, First Vice-President
  
Karen began her career as a special education teacher with the Toronto District School Board in 1993. She has worked extensively in the area of autism and children’s mental health. Karen is passionate about the early years, and also holds a diploma in early childhood education. She has served as a vice-president of the Elementary Teachers of Toronto (ETT) for 12 years as well as a grievance officer, benefits coordinator, strike team coordinator and the local’s chief negotiator. In 2009, Karen was elected to the ETFO provincial Executive. She was elected as ETFO vice-president in 2015 and First Vice-President in 2017. Karen is committed to promoting equity, and social justice.

 
David Mastin 
David Mastin, Vice-President
 
David began his teaching career in 1995 with the Durham Board of Education (now Durham District School Board) after graduating from the University of Toronto. At the Durham Teacher Local, he served as local Treasurer, Secretary, Political Action Chair, Second Vice-President and First Vice-President before being elected local President in 2015. David has also served the local as Chief Negotiator, and as a member of various Collective Bargaining Committees and is energized by the potential that working people have to shape a fair and just society. At the provincial level, David has served on the provincial Representative Council Selection Committee, the Teacher Education Faculty Liaison Committee and has taught a variety of ETFO Credit Courses. He was first elected to the Federation’s provincial Executive in 2013 and was elected vice-president in 2019.

 
Monica Rusnak 
Monica Rusnak, Vice-President
  
Monica began her teaching career in 1988 with District School Board Ontario North East. She has taught in the primary, junior and intermediate divisions. Prior to becoming local president in 2010, she served her local as vice-president, chief negotiator, executive member and chair of the local’s political action, status of women and social justice and equity committees. Monica joined the provincial Executive in 2010 and was elected as ETFO vice-president in 2017. She has served on numerous provincial committees and task forces and is currently a Canadian Teachers’ Federation Trustee and a member of ETFO’s Long Term Disability Board. Monica is very proud to be a part of a team that actively works to build a more just and equitable society and strives to improve the working and learning conditions within our public elementary schools.

 
Nathan Core 
Nathan Core, OTF Representative
  
Nathan began teaching internationally in 2007 before obtaining a position with the Waterloo Region District School Board in 2010 as an occasional teacher. His assignments have included grades 1 through 8 as well as specialty positions in intermediate math, science, physical education, music and special education resource. Nathan was elected president of the Waterloo Region Occasional Teachers' Local in 2013 after serving on its Executive starting in 2011. At the provincial level, Nathan was the recipient of the 2015 ETFO New Member Award, was a member of the Regulation 274 Provincial Task Force and member of the provincial Budget Committee. Nathan has served as a governor of the Ontario Teachers’ Federation since 2017. In 2019 Nathan completed the Harvard Negotiation Institute, Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School.
