The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) welcomes the opportunity for a fresh start with the appointment of Honourable Stephen Lecce as Minister of Education.
“On behalf of more than 83,000 elementary teachers and education professionals in Ontario, I would like to welcome Minister Lecce to his new role,” said Sam Hammond, President of ETFO. “This is an opportunity to reset the government’s agenda of cuts and work together to build upon our world-class public education system.”
With today’s Ontario cabinet shuffle, ETFO renews its call on the government to invest in public education and public services by putting children first.
ETFO encourages the Education Minister to work directly with education stakeholders, including ETFO, to find a new path forward to meet the needs of students and preserve the high-quality public education system that Ontario is known for.
Hammond said, “ETFO looks forward to commencing a productive relationship that is based on mutual respect and good-faith negotiations, with the shared goal of building better schools and meeting the diverse needs of students.”
ETFO represents 83,000 elementary public school teachers, occasional teachers, and education professionals across the province. Its Building Better Schools education agenda and demands are available at
