Greater Essex County teacher Jennifer Lasoski wins ETFO New Member Award

August 13, 2019

TORONTO - The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) has presented Greater Essex County occasional teacher Jennifer Lasoski with its 2019 New Member Award.

The award recognizes a member of ETFO with five years or less membership who has shown a commitment to the priorities of ETFO and been significantly involved at the local and/or provincial level of the organization.

In just three years, long-term occasional teacher Jennifer Lasoski has proved indispensible to her fellow teachers and to the Greater Essex Country Occasional Teacher Local. After being acclaimed to the local Executive in 2016, Jennifer became an active member of the Awards, Collective Bargaining, New Members, Social Justice, Status of Women and Professional Learning Committees. In 2018, she organized and successfully ran the local’s Professional Learning for Occasional Teachers Conferences in Windsor, providing valuable opportunities for members to upgrade their teaching skills.

Jennifer brings the same go-to attitude to her school. She always makes herself available to assist students, colleagues and the school community. Jennifer coaches a variety of extra-curricular activities and provides opportunities for students to participate and practice their leadership skills in and outside the classroom setting. She demonstrates for her students what it means to be a life-long learner by attending ETFO provincial conferences and workshops including its Union School.

“Who better to understand the needs of students, new members and occasional teachers than Jennifer and she has applied her knowledge for their benefit,” said ETFO President Sam Hammond. “With her incredible energy, Jennifer is demonstrating exemplary practice as both a teacher and a member dedicated to our Federation’s values.”

The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario represents 83,000 elementary public school teachers, occasional teachers and education professionals across the province. ETFO’s Building Better Schools education agenda can be viewed at
