Help Build Public Support During Education Week 2019

May 6-12 is Education Week in Ontario. It's an important opportunity to rally our communities to call for investment in public education.

Ontario's public education system is one of the best in the world. It is key to the future success of our children and our province. Yet the Conservative government could radically alter how education is delivered with massive cuts, larger classes, fewer educators and less supports for students with special needs. And that's just the start of this government's four-year term and education agenda.

There's a growing movement of parents, educators and community groups that are pushing back against these damaging changes. Here's how you can build that movement:

1. Canvas Homes in Your Area

Gather your colleagues and visit homes in your neighbourhood. Knock on doors, introduce yourselves as local school teachers/education workers and outline why standing up for public education is important. Hand out the parent leaflet and have people sign the petition available below.

2. Hand Out Flyers at Community Events

Get a group together and talk with the public at community markets and events, malls and transit stops. Hand out the parent flyer, talk to people about why we need to strengthen our public education system and have them sign the petition.

3. Have 5 Conversations with Colleagues, Friends and Neighbours

Take every opportunity to talk with your colleagues, friends and neighbours about public education issues. Help them understand why the Conservative government's proposals will harm millions of Ontario students. Have five conversations during Education Week.

4. Have People Sign the ETFO Petition

ETFO will ensure the petition, available here, is tabled in the Ontario legislature. Ask everyone to sign the petition and follow the instructions to send petitions back to ETFO by May 24 so they can be tabled.
