Brief on Bill 118 - Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2004
Submission to the Standing Committee on Social Policy
The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) welcomes this opportunity to provide input on Bill 118, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
For too long this province, despite its vast wealth in material and human resources, has acquiesced in the denial of full citizenship to far too many of its inhabitants. From inaccessible polling sites to inaccessible workplaces, we have collectively failed.
We believe that overall, Bill 118 is a sound vehicle to redress this historic wrong. We do have reservations, however, about some of the details in the legislation, as well as a few of the gaps, and will point these out in the course of this presentation.
