Building Better Schools

On Friday, October 15, 2010, ETFO launched its election platform, entitled Building Better Schools (2.3 mb), in anticipation of the provincial election scheduled for October 2011. A supporting pamphlet which briefly outlines the Five Building Blocks for Better Schools was released on January 12, 2011.

The platform and an Open Letter to Delegates were distributed at the Ontario Liberal Party AGM in Toronto, October 15-17, 2010.

The purpose of the platform is to raise the profile of education issues and to engage parents and the broader public in a discussion about what’s needed to make Ontario schools the best they can be. ETFO’s proposals focus on five “building blocks” for better schools:

• more meaningful student assessment, 
• greater access to specialist teachers, 
• small classes for all elementary students,
• more resources for special needs students, and
• greater focus on equal opportunity and inclusion.

ETFO members are encouraged to read the platform and to engage parents to talk about building better schools for Ontario students.
