EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT

The Executive Assistant is a Staff Officer responsible for assisting members and Locals, working with committees, and developing and administering Federation programs, services, and policies. 

The successful candidate will meet many of the following criteria.  The candidate has:

  • worked with progressive community groups and social justice organizations;
  • been actively involved in the union movement;
  • worked from an anti-oppression framework;
  • initiated and administered system-wide programs or services;
  • developed and supervised advocacy, outreach, or lobbying programs;
  • demonstrated leadership in the development and delivery of equity and social justice programs;
  • a solid knowledge of relevant statutes and regulatory provisions;
  • superior oral and written communication skills;
  • a practical knowledge of the operation of a provincial teachers’ federation;

Role responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the organization, development, and delivery of equity and social justice programs. The role will also focus on analyzing the barriers to involvement, engagement, and leadership in ETFO and working towards the removal of those barriers.

Candidates shall have a clearly defined philosophy of the role of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario within the Ontario education community and be prepared to undertake such duties as may be determined by the General Secretary.

Preferred qualifications of candidates may include:

  • a broad range of Federation involvement;
  • a Certificate of Qualification to teach in Ontario;
  • a university degree;
  • five years of successful employment experience.

The Executive Assistant is a Staff Officer responsible for assisting members and Locals, working with committees, and developing and administering Federation programs, services, and policies in the Professional Learning/Curriculum service area at the ETFO Provincial Office. 

The successful candidate will meet many of the following criteria.  The candidate has:

  • Thorough knowledge of effective student assessment and evaluation practices;
  • Thorough knowledge of Ministry of Education policies related to student assessment practices;
  • Demonstrated understanding of large scale assessments and the potential impacts on educators, schools, and student learning;
  • Demonstrated understanding of ETFO’s policies and procedures related to professional learning, student assessment, and equity and social justice;
  • Experience advocating for the professional judgement rights of educators, particularly as these rights relate to student assessment practices;
  • Demonstrated expertise and commitment to ensuring equity in student achievement and fostering social justice in student achievement and well-being;
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and delivery of professional learning programs and the supervision of professional learning program facilitators;
  • Proven experience leading teams and collaborating with team members;
  • Practical knowledge of the operation of a provincial teachers’ federation;
  • Commitment to the labour movement and an understanding of the impact unions have had on society;
  • A Certificate of Qualification to teach in Ontario.

The successful candidate will also possess:

  • Experience within ETFO or another education union;
  • A deep commitment to the principles of social justice and equity;
  • Excellent communication, organizational and administrative skills and computer literacy;
  • A university degree;
  • A commitment to maintaining high quality publicly funded education;
  • Five years of successful employment experience.

The successful candidate must be a self-motivated leader able to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.

Role responsibilities will include but not be limited to the development of resources and professional learning activities for ETFO members, advocating for effective student assessment practices, and ensuring the professional judgement rights of educators.
