Nutrition for School Learning
Is your school facing socio-economic challenges? Does your school have a nutrition program that is funded from your school budget or local sources? If so, you may want to be nominated by your ETFO local's president to participate in the "Nutrition for School Learning" project.
Schools that participated in ETFO’s Education and Poverty projects told us that nutrition is an ongoing challenge and concern for elementary schools. We are pleased to inform you that because of the overwhelming success of the 2008-09 Nutrition for School Learning pilot project, we are offering the program this year to many more schools facing socio-economic challenges. The Nutrition for School Learning program is a partnership between the Grocery Foundation and ETFO.
Nutrition for School Learning enables public elementary schools to receive product vouchers at a significant cost reduction. Participating schools that have been nominated by their ETFO local can order and redeem these cost-cutting food vouchers at their local grocery stores.
ETFO locals nominate schools that would benefit from participating in this program. Interested schools facing socio-economic challenges should contact their local ETFO office to be nominated. All schools need to identify a “food ambassador” for the project – preferably a volunteer and NOT a full-time classroom teacher.
The attached
flyer (3 mb) outlines the program. If you have any additional questions, please contact Jim Giles (jgiles@etfo.org), Krista Walford (kwalford@etfo.org) or Kalpana Makan (kmakan@etfo.org) for more information.
