ETFO Supports Striking PSAC Museum Workers in Ottawa-Hull

Members of the Ottawa-Carleton Teacher Local recently supported striking Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) museum workers on the picket line in Hull, Quebec. Pictured are First Vice-President Jan Fraser (left) and Second Vice-President Bob Ferguson (second from the right in the red coat). With them are PSAC members who have been on strike since Sept. 21st at the Museum of Civilization in Hull and the War Museum in Ottawa.

On June 14, 61 Toronto-Dominion (TD) Centre workers were locked out by their employer, Cadillac Fairview (CF). These members of Communications, Energy and Paperworkers (CEP) Local 2003 immediately began picketing; meanwhile, their work was contracted out to third party service providers. One month later, Cadillac Fairview decided to make this arrangement permanent and fired the 61 union employees. Cadillac Fairview is wholly-owned by the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP).
At Annual Meeting 2009 the lockout and subsequent termination of the 'Cadillac Fairview 61' was brought to the attention of delegates. They immediately passed a unanimous motion to have the OTPP lobby the management team at CF for the reinstatement of the members of CEP Local 2003. Delegates also joined the picket line in front of the TD Centre to show their support for the members of CEP 2003 (see photo album). A week later while speaking at a demonstration, ETFO President Sam Hammond pledged the support of all 73,000 ETFO members in this battle for justice with Cadillac Fairview (see the YouTube video below).
