Greg Weiler, a Waterloo Region teacher and president of the ETFO Waterloo Region Teacher Local, was re-elected to the Executive of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) today. Weiler has served on ETFO’s provincial Executive since 2015.
Speaking to more than 800 ETFO members at the Federation’s Annual Meeting, Weiler said, “Our focus must continue to be on harnessing our diversity and the strength and purpose we share as educators and as ETFO members in the ongoing struggle to improve working conditions and public education itself.”
“I remain committed to serving the Federation and our membership as part of a collaborative leadership team so that educators are enabled and supported to perform their important work with the respect and dignity they are due,” said Weiler.
Greg began his teaching career in 1998 and his teaching assignments with the Waterloo Region District School Board have included grades one through ten. He also taught English as a second language and English as a first language in South Korea for one year. Elected president of the Waterloo Region Teacher Local in 2011, Greg served on the local Executive beginning in 2002 and was chief negotiator for five years. Provincially he has participated in committees, Representative Council and the Long Term Disability Governance Board. He is a graduate of ETFO’s Union School and a trained parliamentarian.
The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario represents 78,000 elementary public school teachers and education professionals across the province and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
