April 6 Rally for Education

Crowd shot - April 6 Rally for Education at Queen's Park

On April 6, 2019 more than 30,000 educators, parents, students, and community members from across Ontario packed the lawn at Queen’s Park to send a strong message to the Conservative government that schools need investment, not cuts. The rally was organized by the five largest education unions including: ETFO, OSSTF, OECTA, CUPE and AEFO.

Rally participants overwhelmingly said NO to the government's proposed cuts to education and demanded that we not only maintain, but improve our world-class public education system with:

  • smaller classes from Kindergarten to Grade 12;
  • the current Full-Day Kindergarten model with both a teacher and a DECE;
  • appropriate supports for students with special needs; and
  • further investments in the system.

Let's build on the momentum from the rally by talking on social media about public education, why it needs investment and why students need greater supports, not cuts. Include the hashtag #CutsHurtKids.
