Team ETFO A Mo-Success!

ETFO logo with stachesIn November, at the recommendation of the Men's Focus Committee, ETFO fielded a team for Movember.  Movember is the global fundraising activity designed to raise money for prostate cancer research, and awareness of men’s health issues in general.

Almost one million people participated worldwide and raised $118,000,000. In Canada there were almost 250,000 participants who raised close to $48,000,000.

Team ETFO had 96 members made up of provincial office staff, provincial politicians, local leaders, members, and supporters. Together we raised $20,120—placing us amongst the top 100 teams in Canada—quite a feat given that most of the top teams had a significant element of corporate sponsorship.

We've created a presentation to tell the tale of team ETFO. You can access it by visiting the Prezi website. Once the presentation has loaded, click on 'more' for full-screen display and auto-play.

On January 21st, Provincial Executive members and staff joined ETFO local officers and members from across the province in supporting locked out CAW Local 27 workers. Until today, Local 27 members were employed building locomotives at the Electro-Motive Canada plant in London.

Electro-Motive is a subsidiary of U.S. industrial giant Caterpillar Inc. This morning Caterpillar announced that the London plant would be closing due to high labour costs. The company, which last week announced record profits of $4.9 billion, had attempted to slash salaries and benefits by 50% before locking out the workers on January 1st.

The London Day of Action was organized by the Ontario Federation of Labour and the CAW to protest Caterpillar Inc.'s greed, and the complicity of all levels of government in Canada with a corporate agenda which seeks to eliminate decent jobs.
