Elementary Teachers Welcome New Minister of Education
September 18, 2006
Emily Noble, President of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO), today welcomed the new Minister of Education, Kathleen Wynne.
“Ontario elementary teachers wish Ms. Wynne well in her new portfolio, which is one of the most challenging in the cabinet,” said Noble.
“We had worked closely with Ms. Wynne when she served as Parliamentary Assistant to Minister Pupatello and her predecessor, Gerard Kennedy. We continue to be impressed by Ms. Wynne’s knowledge of educational issues and her commitment to a strong publicly funded school system and look forward to her bringing these strengths to her new position,” Noble added.
“The achievement of quality education is a major concern for the educational community and it has strong implications for every parent and student in this province. We are pleased to see that by naming Ms. Wynne to the education portfolio,
Premier Dalton McGuinty continues to demonstrate the key position education occupies in the government’s mandate.
“ETFO thanks Sandra Pupatello for the strong contributions she brought to education in Ontario as Education Minister and wishes her well in her new role as Minister of Economic Development and Trade. Like her predecessor Gerard Kennedy, she had an in-depth understanding of the issues and was always willing to meet with our members to listen to their concerns. We look forward to continuing this dialogue with Minister Wynne,” Noble said.
The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario represents 70,000 public elementary school teachers and education workers across Ontario and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
