Mind Games Improve Student Success
June 1, 2006
Elementary public school teachers attend summer school for professional upgrading
Knowing how the brain works helps teachers enhance student learning. Mind games that put the theories of brain-based learning into practice are the focus of a summer course offered by the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and the Greater Essex County Teacher Local.
The course is one of a wide range of professional development opportunities offered this summer by ETFO in partnership with its locals across the province and made possible in part by funding from the Ministry of Education.
Courses are taught by ETFO members and designed to provide teachers with practical skills and resources to use in their classrooms. Some 2000 elementary public school teachers are expected to take part in courses across the province over the next eight weeks.
Available courses include Kindergarten Learning Institutes, a women’s leadership institute, Reflections of Me—ETFO’s pioneering body image course; Summer Aboriginal Experience, Principals' Qualifications Program, and credit courses.
ETFO and the Greater Essex County Teacher Local are offering:
What: Mind Games—The Trilogy
When: July 11, 12, and 13; 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Hampton In and Suites,
