ETFO Welcomes a New Minister of Education

In a cabinet shuffle on January 18th Kathleen Wynne was moved from the Education portfolio to Transportation. Wynne is replaced by Leona Dombrowski, who was previously Minister of Agriculture.
In a statement released January 19th, ETFO President Sam Hammond welcomed Minister Dombrowsky on behalf of Ontario's 73,000 public school teachers and education workers, and wished Wynne all the best in her new role.
Dombrowski is the 7th Minister of Education since ETFO's founding in 1998. |

ETFO Supports the Haitian People
As with past humanitarian disasters, ETFO has responded quickly and generously to the tragic situation unfolding in Haiti—contributing almost $100,000 to the relief efforts.
The ETFO Humanity Fund, on the recommendation of President Hammond, made an initial donation of $10,000 to the Canadian Red Cross. This was followed by the approval of a $5,000 donation to Global Medic by provincial Executive.
To date, ETFO locals have contributed an astounding $42,170 to a variety of charities—chief among them the Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders.
Given the provincial Executive's pledge to match donations made by ETFO local executives—and the fact that some locals have yet to report their contributions—there is little doubt that total ETFO contributions will exceed $100,000 in the near future.
We encourage members to continue to support the relief and rebuilding efforts in Haiti which are so desperately needed. |
