Allegations: What to do

​​What to do if an allegation is made against you

If you learn that an allegation has been made against you that could result in a criminal or Children's Aid Society ("CAS") investigation, remain calm and contact your local or provincial ETFO office for support. Please be aware of the following important information:

If you are contacted by the police or the CAS regarding an allegation against you:

  1. DO NOT participate in, or consent to, an interview.
  2. Make no statement to anyone including administration regarding the allegation/charges.
  3. Say... "I am willing to co-operate but I am unable to comment until I contact the Federation and legal counsel."
  4. Call ETFO at 416-962-3836 or 1-888-838-3836 and state that your call is urgent.
  5. You will be put in touch with the professional relations staff (PRS) "on-call" who will provide the necessary assistance.

If you are notified about an allegation after office hours, you may contact ETFO Provincial office if you are in an "emergency" situation.

What is an Emergency?

  • You are facing criminal charges for an alleged criminal offence directly related to the performance of your professional duties;
  • Police are on the scene or on the way; and
  • You are at risk of being arrested/incarcerated.

What Should You Do?

Call 416-962-3836 or 1-888-838-3836 and follow the instructions to reach an operator.

A voice message will provide the necessary instructions to put you through to an operator. You will be asked a few quick questions.  Where appropriate, a criminal lawyer will be contacted and you will be connected immediately.
