ETFO calls for cessation of hostilities in the Middle East
February 21, 2024
The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) remains deeply concerned about the ongoing violence spreading across the Middle East, from Gaza (including Rafah) to the West Bank, Israel, and Lebanon. This impact is felt globally and within local communities, affecting many students and ETFO members with families in the region.
ETFO stands with all those who are grieving and affected by this untenable violence. Action is required – from us, from our partners and allies, and from all levels of government. This war must come to an end.
ETFO endorses the International Trade Union Confederation’s call for an immediate cessation of hostilities by all parties, including a permanent ceasefire and the release of hostages and individuals held in Gaza and Israel without valid legal justification. International humanitarian laws must be respected.
As a Federation that prioritizes social justice in the areas of peace, anti-poverty, non-violence, and equity, ETFO condemns this violence and all forms of hate and discrimination. We will continue to advocate for enduring peace, dialogue, and a lasting resolution to this conflict.
