Peel teacher Manjit Deol elected to ETFO provincial Executive
August 13, 2025
Manjit Deol, a teacher and vice-president of the Peel Teacher Local (PETL), has been elected to the provincial Executive of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO).
“I’m humbled and honoured to serve as a member of the ETFO provincial Executive where I will work to create safer, more inclusive spaces for all,” says Deol. “I will stand shoulder to shoulder with members in solidarity and support them and the students we serve. Together, we will hold the Ford government accountable. Our voices need to be heard and valued, and we need to be seen.”
Deol began her teaching career 23 years ago. Before being elected to serve as a vice-president of the PETL in 2023, she served as an intensive support teacher. In this role, she supported colleagues and students with strategies to respond to student dysregulation.
Deol has served on PETL’s Constitution Committee (currently Bylaws Committee), Elementary Joint Staffing Committee, Anti-Racism and Equity Committee, and Annual Meeting Committee. She was also elected by her local to serve as a delegate to the Peel Regional Labour Council.
Provincially, Deol has chaired ETFO’s Anti-Racism Education Committee, been a delegate at ETFO Annual Meetings, and participated in Union School and Leaders for Tomorrow. She is also the recipient of the 2023 ETFO Anti-Bias Award.
ETFO represents approximately 84,000 members, including public elementary teachers, occasional teachers, designated early childhood educators, education support personnel, and professional support personnel. Visit BuildingBetterSchools.ca.
