Bluewater teacher Julie Stanley elected to ETFO provincial Executive

August 18, 2021

TORONTO, ON – Julie Stanley, a teacher and president of the Bluewater Teacher Local, has been elected to the provincial Executive of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO).

“Through open, collaborative conversations, and transparent decision-making at the Executive table, I am committed to continuing our work to protect member rights and to improve and secure quality public education in Ontario. It’s time to empower and engage members as we continue to fight attacks on public education,” says Stanley.

In 1992, Stanley obtained a bachelor of education from Brock University and started teaching at the Bluewater District School Board. She has served as president of the Bluewater Teacher Local since 2015 and was chief negotiator between 2007 and 2015. Locally, Stanley has served on the collective bargaining, political action, benefits, elections, new teachers and status of women committees.

Provincially, Stanley has been a member of ETFO’s Representative Council since 2015, and has been a delegate at provincial Annual Meetings for 20 years. She also currently serves as ETFO’s Humanity Fund director, and is a member of both the Benefit Advisory Committee and the Collective Bargaining Provincial Committee.

ETFO represents 83,000 elementary public school teachers, occasional teachers and education professionals across the province. Its Building Better Schools education agenda can be viewed at BuildingBetterSchools.ca.
